I am having difficulties downloading Adobe Reader 9. I am using IE7 and I am having the following issues:
1) I first get a popup that reads "The website wants to install the following add on- Adobe DLM. If you trust the website and the add-on click here to install.
2) I click on the prompt and a dialog box pops up that tells me to Install Active X.
3) I then receive another yellow pop up that says "Your security settings do not allow websites to use Active X controls installed on your computer. The page may not display correctly...Click here for options
4) Click on the message and it gives me a message "More Information"
I got to Tools/IE options/Security/Custom Level and these are my Active X options:
Allow Previously Unused Active X Controadobe reader 9.1 downloadingls......Disable
Allow Scriplets....Prompt
Automatic Prompting....Disable
Binary and Script Behaviors.....Enable
Display video.........Disable
Download Signed Active X controls......Prompt
Download Unsigned Active X......Disable
Initialize and Script Active X.......Disable
Run Active X Controls and Plug ins....Enable
Script Active X......Enable
Please help. I have even tried to change the settings to the default leve but that does not work. I recently had a tech fix my computer and he went to Run/Msconfig/Selective Startup and disabled all programs for startup. This made my PC run alot smoother but now i am having issues with my Adobe. I tried to open an Adobe Document but it would say Adobe 8.1 has stopped working so i unistalled it thinking that I could adobe reader 9.1 downloadingreinstall the program. Help please...and im not a techie so please use the simpliest methods of explanations that you can give :)Thanks
You can try a workaround. Install Firefox and use it to go to Adobe.com. Firefox doesn't use the ActiveX control to install Adobe Reader, it downloads a file. Save the installer and then run it from your local computer and see if that works.
You first must be using an 'Administrative' level account.
Active X is scripting, and will make (install) stuff to your system so be very careful with who you're getting this from.
In IE> Tools> Int. Options> Advanced> Security heading; check 'Allow active content to run files on my computer'...
Again, this is at best a risky setting.
